VKB Group in Reitz, Free State is Looking For a Code 10 Driver

A valuable opportunity has become available within VKB Group through its subsidiary Grain Field Chickens, a dynamic role player in the integrated broiler industry with an abattoir based in Reitz in the North Eastern Free State. This position offers the chance to establish yourself within a professional agricultural environment while working extensively in the field and contributing directly to biosecurity standards across poultry farms.

The primary purpose of this role is to travel daily to various farms and perform disinfecting of broiler houses according to strict Standard Operating Procedures. The successful candidate will spend approximately 80% to 90% of their time on the road, travelling alone and independently conducting disinfecting processes. This position requires a high level of responsibility, discipline, and adherence to biosecurity protocols to ensure optimal hygiene standards within chicken houses.

The minimum requirements for this position include Grade 12 or an NQF Level 4 equivalent qualification. Applicants must possess a valid Code 10 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP). A technical background will be advantageous, along with working knowledge of the layout of chicken houses. A clear criminal record is required. As the role involves engaging with Grain Field Chickens contract growers, the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans is essential. Candidates must also be willing to work overtime, including Saturdays and Sundays when operational demands require.

In this role, you will travel to multiple farms daily to disinfect broiler houses after they have been fully washed. Duties include preparing the disinfecting liquid by mixing approved chemicals at the correct dilution, following manufacturer instructions when operating disinfecting units, and ensuring that each house is properly prepared prior to disinfecting, such as switching on ventilation systems. You will also be required to disinfect the vehicle and make use of onsite shower facilities in line with biosecurity protocols.

Accurate completion of required documentation, including disinfecting checklists, is mandatory. After disinfecting each house, you will take swabs as part of quality control measures and ensure that the chicken house is secured to restrict unauthorised access. Strict adherence to laid-down Standard Operating Procedures from start to finish is critical in maintaining compliance and safeguarding poultry health.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong client interaction skills, as respectful and responsive engagement with internal and external customers is essential. You must be able to work effectively with others while also being capable of working independently when required. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for recording, analysing, and reporting information accurately.
