At Royal Bafokeng, the sustainable management of infrastructure and environmental resources is a vital priority. The organisation is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to ensure the effective operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment facilities. This role is critical in safeguarding environmental compliance, maintaining operational efficiency, and protecting community health through responsible wastewater management.
The successful candidate will operate and monitor wastewater treatment plants and all associated equipment to ensure smooth and efficient functioning. Daily responsibilities include conducting inspections and checks on pumps, valves, chemical dosing systems, and mechanical and electrical equipment to confirm that all components are operating within required parameters. The role also involves carrying out routine preventative maintenance on plant equipment to reduce the risk of breakdowns and extend asset lifespan. Monitoring effluent quality forms a key part of the position, requiring the incumbent to perform tests in accordance with established standards and operational protocols. Accurate recording of operational data, meter readings, and test results is essential, along with preparing reports that support compliance and performance tracking. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator must respond promptly to plant faults, breakdowns, and emergency situations to minimise disruptions and ensure continuous operation. The role requires a high level of attentiveness, technical understanding, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
The qualification requirements for this position include a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate and a relevant certificate in Wastewater Treatment or Sewerage Plant Operations, specifically a Class I or Class II Waste Process Controller Certificate. Candidates must have two to three years of experience in wastewater or sewerage plant operations or a related field, demonstrating practical operational knowledge. A valid Code B driver’s licence is required. Applicants must also be willing to work shifts and be available for standby duties, as plant operations may require attention outside of standard working hours.
This opportunity is suited to a responsible and technically competent individual who is committed to environmental stewardship and operational excellence. Royal Bafokeng offers a professional environment where skills and expertise contribute directly to sustainable water management. If you meet the stated requirements and are prepared to take on a role that demands accountability and precision, this position provides a meaningful opportunity within essential infrastructure operations.
