The organisation is seeking a Maintenance Handyman to take responsibility for the mall’s roof, gutters, parking, and yard areas, while also supporting general maintenance activities across the facility. The successful candidate will perform day-to-day general maintenance tasks throughout the mall and assist fellow handymen in shared responsibilities. This includes attending to reactive maintenance requests, carrying out minor repairs, and conducting routine inspections of facilities to identify and report maintenance requirements to the Operations team. Maintaining the cleanliness, organisation, and safety of work areas and tools is essential. A key focus of the role is roof and gutter maintenance, which involves inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining these structures to prevent leaks, blockages, and structural damage. The incumbent will carry out minor roof repairs, address flashing issues, and report major defects that require contractor intervention. All roof-related work must be conducted safely, using appropriate personal protective equipment and equipment.
The role also covers parking and yard maintenance, including maintaining parking surfaces, assisting with line marking, and ensuring general upkeep. Yard areas must be kept organised, free from debris, and safe for both staff and visitors. Routine inspections of external areas are required to identify hazards, damage, or maintenance concerns. Preventative maintenance forms a significant component of the position, requiring adherence to scheduled maintenance plans to reduce the need for reactive repairs. The incumbent must respond promptly to maintenance requests, keep accurate logs of completed work and materials used, and document observations for future planning.
Health, safety, and compliance are integral to the role. The Maintenance Handyman must adhere to all occupational health and safety standards and mall safety protocols. Correct use of personal protective equipment, placement of safety signage, and immediate reporting of hazards are mandatory. Effective teamwork and communication are essential, as the role requires close collaboration with other handymen and regular updates to Junior and Senior Operations Managers regarding completed tasks and maintenance needs. Supporting new or temporary staff when required also forms part of the responsibilities.
The qualification requirements for this position include a minimum of three to five years’ experience in building maintenance, with specific exposure to roof, gutter, or external area maintenance. Experience within commercial or retail facilities is preferred. Candidates must have knowledge of health, safety, and compliance standards. Strong general handyman skills, the ability to identify and troubleshoot maintenance issues efficiently, attention to detail, reliability, and accountability are essential. Physical fitness is required to safely perform manual and potentially elevated tasks. The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment is also necessary.
