In an environment where safety, vigilance, and accountability are critical to business continuity, Montego Pet Nutrition is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to safeguard its premises, assets, and people. This role is well suited to an individual with a keen eye for detail, calm authority, and a strong sense of responsibility. The successful candidate will play an essential role in maintaining a secure and controlled operational environment while ensuring full compliance with legal and company procedures.
The primary responsibility of this position is security enforcement. The incumbent will guard and secure Montego’s premises, property, and assets, ensuring that all areas remain protected at all times. This includes apprehending criminals and evicting violators in accordance with legal frameworks and company policies. Where required, the officer may restrain trespassers using approved procedures. The role may also involve providing off-site guarding support to Montego employees when necessary, ensuring their safety in potentially high-risk situations.
Access control, surveillance, and operational monitoring form a significant portion of the role. The successful candidate will ensure that all security systems are fully operational and report any faults immediately. Regular physical security checks and risk assessments must be conducted to identify potential vulnerabilities relating to intrusion, fire, or safety incidents. The officer will provide both physical and remote escort services in high-risk areas and respond promptly to alarm incidents, accurately recording all details in the Incident Management System. Control Room duties will include CCTV surveillance, alarm monitoring, and vehicle tracking. The incumbent will investigate accidents, suspicious activities, and fire or safety incidents in line with company policy. Monitoring the movement of vehicles, goods, and products through access control systems is essential to prevent loss and ensure compliance. The role requires real-time and recorded footage analysis, restricting and managing access to designated areas using appropriate security systems, and screening individuals using detecting devices or conducting physical inspections in designated private areas. The officer will also receive and distribute packages from external suppliers and maintain accurate security documentation, including incident reports, dispatch entries, and shift handover reports. Completing witness statements and providing evidentiary video footage when required are additional responsibilities, along with performing any duties directed by the Security Supervisor.
The role further includes security support responsibilities. The officer will analyse and respond to support requests relating to access control, surveillance, first aid, occupational health and safety, general security queries, and VIP arrangements. All support must be delivered within required timeframes and in line with company policies and legal requirements. Matters requiring escalation must be referred to relevant stakeholders, with follow-up to ensure resolution and feedback.
The qualification requirements for this position include Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) and a valid PSIRA Grade C certification. A valid Code B driver’s licence is required. Candidates must have a minimum of three years’ experience in security guarding. Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage conflict and de-escalate tense situations effectively. The ideal candidate should be highly confidential and trustworthy, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking efficiently. A sound understanding of security policies, procedures, access control systems, and relevant security legislation and regulations is required.
