Smollan in KwaZulu-Natal is Looking For a General Assistant

In today’s competitive retail environment, consistent in-store execution and customer engagement are essential to driving brand performance. Smollan is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support Stocking and Merchandising Operations while contributing to customer service and inventory management functions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on the sales floor, maintaining organised displays, and supporting a positive shopping experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, unpacking, and organising incoming shipments, ensuring that product quantities align accurately with delivery documentation. Efficiently stocking the sales floor and replenishing displays and shelves throughout the day will be essential to maximise product availability and maintain store presentation standards. The role includes ensuring that all products are clearly and accurately priced, with correct signage and tags applied according to company requirements. Basic visual merchandising tasks must be executed to ensure that displays remain neat, attractive, and aligned with company standards.

In addition to merchandising duties, the position requires active customer engagement. The incumbent will greet customers on the sales floor and proactively offer assistance, answering basic product-related questions and helping locate items. Supporting Cashiers and Sales Associates by retrieving items from storage, clearing fitting rooms, and assisting customers with carrying purchases forms part of daily responsibilities. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current store promotions, policies, and store layout is essential to provide accurate and helpful information to customers.

Inventory management and stock handling are also core components of this role. The candidate will verify incoming shipments against delivery invoices to ensure accuracy and report discrepancies where necessary. Maintaining an organised and safe backroom or storage area is critical for operational efficiency and workplace safety. Applying correct price labels, tags, and security stickers before merchandise is moved to the sales floor ensures compliance with company procedures and loss prevention standards.

The qualification requirements for this position include a Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 certificate. Candidates should have one to two years of previous retail experience, although applicants with up to five years of experience will be considered. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent customer service skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and a proactive attitude toward daily tasks.

This opportunity offers valuable exposure within a dynamic retail environment where teamwork, presentation standards, and customer satisfaction are key priorities. Suitable candidates who meet the requirements and are committed to delivering efficient in-store support and positive customer experiences are encouraged to apply.
