Applicants must have a Matric, Grade 12, or equivalent certificate with a minimum of one year working experience in retail. Experience in beauty, fragrances, and skincare products will be an advantage. Candidates with experience working on Point of Sale systems and Microsoft Office, including emails and Excel, will also have an added advantage.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a welcoming, inspirational, and personalised shopping experience for customers. The role requires actively supporting and contributing to the achievement of all store sales targets and operational standards. This includes understanding sales performance metrics such as average spend per customer, increasing basket size, and applying effective link selling techniques to drive revenue.
Daily responsibilities include attending and participating in morning team meetings and floor walks, raising queries or ideas with the Store Supervisor, and assisting in preparations for stock takes. The candidate will conduct cycle counts when required and report discrepancies. Maintaining accurate stock rotation using the FIFO principle is essential, ensuring that only up-to-date and properly handled stock is displayed.
The Retail Sales Assistant must ensure that all stock on the sales floor and in the stockroom is clean, hygienic, and well-presented. Housekeeping standards must be maintained at all times, including clean shelves, swept floors, and sanitised testers. Visual merchandising standards must be consistently implemented to create an appealing store environment that enhances customer experience.
Customer engagement is a key focus of the role. The successful candidate will offer Loyalty Card memberships to every customer, explain ongoing promotions and special offers, and professionally perform makeovers while recording customer details and products used. Testers should be utilised effectively to introduce customers to product ranges and encourage sales.
Compliance with all store policies and procedures, including Point of Sale, cash handling, banking, and staff uniform policies, is mandatory. The candidate must assist with pricing updates, including mark-ups, mark-downs, and promotional changes within their area of responsibility. Supporting marketing initiatives such as sidewalk sales, centre court activations, and pop-up stores will also form part of the role.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, teamwork, and a passion for beauty retail, while ensuring operational excellence and delivering exceptional customer service at all times.
