Applicants must have a minimum Grade 12 certificate or equivalent. Wastewater and water-related certificates will be advantageous. Candidates must have at least one year of experience, preferably in a wastewater treatment environment. Applicants must be medically fit, able to pass company and/or client criminal screening processes, and willing to work rotating shifts and overtime when required.
The successful candidate will provide general site assistance and operational support to ensure planned targets are achieved. The role involves working closely with the supervisor to maintain efficient operations and performing daily inspections within the designated area of responsibility. Responsibilities include planning and managing water sites, assisting with operational problem-solving, and reporting any deviations or challenges to the immediate supervisor.
Duties include cleaning screens, grit channels, anoxic and aeration zones, clarifiers, chlorine contact channels, and sump basins. The General Site Assistant will conduct testing and record key operational indicators such as MLSS, DSVI, RAS, suspended solids, pH levels, dissolved oxygen, chlorine levels, flow meter readings, and monitor equipment breakdowns. The removal of dry sludge from drying beds and other waste materials forms part of the daily responsibilities.
The role also requires checking chlorine dosing systems, monitoring stock levels, and opening and closing valves in accordance with operational requirements. Strict adherence to company procedures, safety legislation, and internal policies is mandatory. Participation in toolbox talks, risk assessments, planned task observations, and safety meetings is required.
