Retail leadership requires energy, precision, and a strong commercial mindset, and at Pepkor, supervisors play a central role in driving store performance. As one of South Africa’s leading retail groups, Pepkor is focused on delivering value to customers while maintaining operational excellence across its stores. The company is currently seeking a committed and results-driven Supervisor to support the Store Manager in maximising profitability, strengthening sales performance, and ensuring that operational standards are consistently upheld.
The primary focus of the Supervisor role is to assist the Store Manager in increasing sales effectively while managing stock and controlling expenses in line with the approved budget. The successful candidate will help drive turnover growth by ensuring that merchandising standards are executed correctly and that the sales floor remains appealing, organised, and customer-focused. Responsibilities include supporting merchandise management, ensuring adherence to stock loss prevention measures, assisting with financial execution processes, and maintaining accurate administrative records. The Supervisor will also provide information support, oversee stock holding in line with policy, and assist with human resource-related responsibilities to ensure smooth daily operations.
To qualify for this position, applicants must have Matric or an equivalent qualification. Candidates should have between three to five years of retail experience as a Shop Assistant. Computer literacy is essential, along with strong communication skills. Further qualifications related to retail or business management will be advantageous and may strengthen a candidate’s application for this supervisory opportunity.
A successful Supervisor at Pepkor must demonstrate outstanding customer care skills and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse customer base. Accurate and efficient till operation skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain high standards on the sales floor. The role requires dedication to quality housekeeping standards and the initiative to take action when tasks need attention. A strong attendance record and punctuality are important, as consistency contributes to overall store stability and performance.
The position demands a thorough understanding of the company’s visual merchandising (VM) strategy, particularly regarding stock intensity and SKU availability. Effective planning and delegation skills are necessary to guide team members and ensure productivity targets are met. The ability to lead, motivate, and support staff contributes directly to a positive working environment and improved sales performance. Personal integrity, high stress tolerance, and the ability to work retail trading hours, including weekends and public holidays, are essential for success in this dynamic retail environment.
Operationally, the Supervisor must understand and oversee receiving procedures, ensuring that stock is processed accurately and efficiently. Maintaining the stockroom layout according to company specifications is critical to ensuring easy access to merchandise and effective inventory control. By supporting stock loss management processes and enforcing adherence to company policies and CODE values, the Supervisor contributes to safeguarding company assets and maintaining ethical standards.
This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious retail professional who is ready to step into a leadership-support role and contribute meaningfully to store profitability. If you possess strong organisational skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to lead by example, Pepkor invites you to apply and become part of a retail group committed to growth, value, and operational excellence.
